BACKGROUND. Dr. Bill Geis is an experienced clinician, researcher, medical school professor and forensic expert--with a career that spans more than 40 years. He holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Kansas. He did a Psychiatry Department Internship at the Indiana University School of Medicine and a two-year Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Menninger Foundation, which is now in collaboration with Baylor Medical School in Houston, Texas. His clinical, teaching, and administrative experience is broad and deep, with experience in virtually all mental health conditions and treatments. FORENSIC: His career as a forensic expert includes over 850 consultations in the areas of suicide wrongful death, standard of care, personal injury, criminal defenses and other issues as outlined below. His extensive teaching and clinical training expertise enhances his ability to provide competent and non-jargon-filled depositions and court testimony. He is able to communicate effectively with juries of different backgrounds. He is an expert in using psychological tests in a forensic context (MMPI-2-RF, TSI, DAP, VIP, etc.), and he has done over 65 depositions and trial and sentencing testimonies over his long career. He also has experience in mental-health-standard-of-care ethical guidelines, HIPAA regulations and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals (JCAH) standards. He has been a successful researcher (over $12.5 million dollars) and recently has focused on suicide, substance abuse and trauma. He is also the co-founder of a non-profit suicide prevention organization—KCSAPP. SPEAKING/TRAINING EXPERIENCE. He has trained over 10,000 clinicians and was previously the Clinical Division Director of the American Association of Suicidology. He has done over 150 invited clinical addresses and, in recent years, has done talks throughout the U.S, Asia, Canada, Europe and South America. He was the Chief Clinician of the Enhanced Suicide Care Academy in Kansas City, and, in 2024, was tapped as a "Legend of Psychology" by West Coast University for a video series on Enhanced Suicide Care. He did a recent podcast on suicide care (www.foundationifs.org/podcast). CERTIFICATIONS/CONSULTATIONS. He is a Certified Psychological Autopsy Investigator, awarded by AAS. He has designation for the past decade as one of the top three psychologists in Kansas City Missouri. He has done many consultations for various organizations over the years, including a current consultation with the First Responder Network, an organization to providing trauma support to first responders. He is credentialed for teletherapy services in 42 states (PSYPACT), and he is also a Level I Internal Family Systems practitioner.
