Dr. Jacob Sharony is a wireless technology expert witness and principal consultant of Mobius Consulting, an independent mobile and wireless technology consulting firm he founded in 2004. He has served in nearly 60 expert witness engagements in wireless and mobile technology disputes, including 37 inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the USPTO Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) plus an ex parte reexamination, deposition testimony in 18 matters, jury trial testimony in the Eastern District of Texas, ITC Section 337 evidentiary hearing testimony (Inv. No. 337-TA-1278), two international arbitration hearings before UNCITRAL tribunals, and an expert report in UK High Court cellular SEP litigation. He has been engaged by petitioners and patent owners, plaintiffs and defendants, in roughly equal measure. Dr. Sharony brings more than 35 years of experience in wireless communications and mobile networks, including senior roles at Motorola/Symbol Technologies (eight years as Senior Director, R&D and Technology Strategy), Powerwave Technologies (VP, Innovation), and the SUNY Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (Director, Network Technologies Research), with earlier positions at BAE Systems, NEC Research Institute, and IBM Research. He is a named inventor on 50+ issued and pending U.S. patents, including 10+ in RF location and asset tracking. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University and an MBA from Tel Aviv University, is an Adjunct Professor of Electrical Engineering at Columbia University, and is a Life Senior Member of IEEE, with 2,700+ scholarly citations.
