John Horst, CISSP®-ISSAP®, is the owner and Chief Technology Officer for Xanesti Technology Services, LLC. Current Information System Security Officer (ISSO) providing security engineering compliance consultation to the U.S. Department of War. Experience with major cybersecurity standards (e.g., National Institute of Standards and Technology, ISSO 27001, CIS). 28 years’ experience in software development, secure software architectures and coding, systems integration and testing, and user support. Experience evaluating emerging Artificial Intelligence technologies and compliance frameworks. Substantial expert witness case history across State (including Family Court) and Federal jurisdictions. John has served in various information technology roles in the U.S. Defense Industrial Base for 20 years, including cybersecurity engineering, software development, installation and training, and troubleshooting. John has consulted on and testified in several cases, both civil and criminal as well as in jurisdiction from family courts to federal district courts. He has been deposed in four cases, and was on a remote/online standby to testify in one where the matter settled immediately prior to his scheduled testimony. John has provided expert information technology consulting across several lines of business such as pharmaceutical development, medical billing, general liability insurance, clinical laboratory systems, mortgage financing, and automotive aftermarket products. John has taught information technology courses for the University of Phoenix (San Diego and Online campuses) and Coleman University (San Diego) where John pioneered the development of computer game software development instruction, which became a core part of the Coleman curriculum. John has also taught philosophy courses for the University of Phoenix, including critical thinking. He incorporates Irving Copi's chapter on Logic and the Law in his lectures and is deeply familiar with the essential distinction between presenting/establishing facts vs. arguing the law. The CISSP®-ISSAP® is a globally recognized certification for information technology and cybersecurity. The CISSP® certifies an expert-level competency across the entire spectrum of information technology, importantly including legal and regulatory compliance aspects. The ISSAP® certification requires prior award of the CISSP®, and indicates expert-level competence in cybersecurity as pertains to software architectures and coding.
