Ann Backof has expertise in auditing and financial reporting. She is currently the KPMG Peat Marwick Associate Professor in Professional Accounting and serves as the Director of the General Business Minor at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.
Professor Backof has taught financial accounting, intermediate accounting, auditing, and data analytics during her tenure as a professor at the University of Virginia. Her research focuses on auditors’ judgments and decision-making under uncertainty and jurors’ evaluation of those judgments when determining auditor negligence and damage awards. She uses psychology theory and behavioral methods to investigate these important issues.
